Installation Instructions

Due to the design of the oil pan, access to some mounting locations is limited. Installation of the baffles can be time-consuming and may require patience when starting the mounting screws.

Find somewhere comfortable to work, put on some good music, and take your time. Installation is straightforward but can be fiddly in places.

1. Remove the Oil Pan

Drain and then remove your oil pan following a trusted service manual. Remove any trace of gasket material on the sealing face of the oil pan and engine block, then thoroughly clean the oil pan using a degreaser.

2. Remove the Rubber Flaps

To remove the existing rubber oil flaps, you can either push them out from the rear using a blunt tool, or pull them out from the front, starting on one side of the flap and “peeling” it out of the slot.

3. Install the Aluminium Baffles

The aluminium baffles screw in from the rear. Each baffle has its own “best process” and “best tool”.

Best process:

Apply a small amount of the supplied high-temperature thread locker to the threads of each mounting screw prior to installation.

Offer up the baffle in one hand, and the Allen screw in the other.

TIP:  (You can place a piece of masking tape over the end of the Allen key to tighten the fit to prevent the Allen screw from dropping off the end of the Allen key)

Start one screw in the baffle hinge and thread it in a few turns, but do not tighten it. Leaving the assembly loose provides additional movement to help start the second screw. You can tilt the baffle hinge up and down a little to help the next Allen screw get started. You may also find that one of the two bolts is better to start with than the other depending on access and tool clearance.

Note: If resistance is encountered when starting a screw, stop immediately and verify alignment. Do not force the screw into position, as cross-threading may permanently damage the baffle or oil pan.

Once both screws are started, tighten them evenly, taking care not to overtighten them as this may damage the threads.

Best tool:

I used a standard 3mm Allen key for the most part of the installation, as well as a ¼” ratchet with a 3mm Allen key bit where access was more limited.

4. Reinstall the Oil Pan

Allow the thread locker to cure for a minimum of 30 minutes. Perform a final inspection and then clean your oil pan once more using a degreaser and then reinstall your oil pan following a trusted service manual
